opinions please!

My niece's birthday is next week and she is very much into American Girl dolls. I picked up this pattern sometime over the summer with her in mind. It is part of Simplicity's line of reproduced vintage 50's patterns. I'm planning on making View A with this blue print fabric for the skirt that I found in the remnant bin at Joann's. Now I need your opinions! I can't decide on what to do for the for the top and waist. Originally I was thinking a plain white top with a red waist, but now I'm not sure. The pattern uses a blue top, but I think there's enough blue in the skirt and it's really difficult to match the color. So, should I just do the white top and red waist, or should I do a red top with a white waist. These are the options I have for the red part. What do you think??

White top, red waist. I think the red top and the blue bottom would be a bit overwhelming. But either would be cute - its a cute dress.

I say white top with a red waist and maybe red buttons down the front.

Plain red top, white waist! A white top will soon get dirty...

Red top, solid red. White waist.

the white as a top would become too dirty too quickly...

Red top and white waist. Are you really going to listen to us and do what we say? (Send Southern Seven chocolate) Nothing like a little subliminal message added in.

Ok. My first impression is to have a solid red top and use the printed red flower fabric for the waist. Then make a matching head band out of the waist fabric.

I vote for the white top, red waist. Soon, there will be a very happy little girl in this world. I hope she knows how lucky she is to have an Auntie like you to make her such lovely things.

I'm going for the white top with a red waistband - it may get a little dirty after a lot of play, but that's what washing machines are for, right?

I'd do the red solid top and use the patterned red as the waist.

I always get hung up on decisions like this. :)

red top, white waist. a white top would get smudged so easily - maybe trim the top in white to tie it in?

I think a white top, with the red floral at the waist. And maybe some red buttons and some ric-rak on the collar. Too cute!

I say white top, red waist using that red print on the left. I am sure she will love it whatever you decide though!

I think plain white top with a red waist is perfect! Can't wait to see the final product.

I'd go for a red top and either a white or solid navy blue waistband.

I like the idea of the white top and red waist. Great fabrics by the way. I love the blue you got for the skirt - gotta love the remnants bins.
