Take me away to Margaritaville (and maybe the thrift store too)

I swear Martha is a women after my own heart. I just got the May issue of MSL yesterday and I think it's one of the best ones yet. Margaritas are my absolute favorite drink and there were 3 whole pages of margartia recipes. I really want to try the watermelon & basil and the pink grapfruit ones. They just sounds so refreshing. Now only if it could warm up about 20 degrees!

I also had a successful trip to the thrift store on Monday sans child. John had off work because D.C. celebrates Emancipation Day so D.C. schools were closed. I much more enjoy thrifting alone. That way I don't have little grabby hands pulling things off shelves or whining every time I pick something up.

Anyway, I found several bags of rick-rack, seam binding, and sewing needles. I also picked up this bag of fabrics. I love the gold with the white polka dots, it's my favorite out of all them.

I really need to stop reading blogs, because after I saw all of Karyn's pillowcase totes, I felt the need to buy a couple. I picked up three, but they have yet to be made into anything.

This pillowcase is my favorite, I almost don't want to cut it up!
I also found 2 really pretty sheets.
And I finally got around to reworking a custom order I had from almost 2 months ago. It was a frustrating project because I had to basically cut the whole thing apart. I took the top off and sewed it to the bottom, added batting, and a stabilizer. In the end, I'm happy with the way it came out and sometimes, I think that's when all the frustrations are worth it. Hope she likes the finished product!

I'm a big MS fan too! Even through all her troubles, I still loved her. Where on earth do you thrift? I can't find anything nearly as nice at the ones I visit.

I think of you as Martha Jr. You are always trying her projects. I can tell that you are a fan of hers. :-)

I think I had a matching pillowcase to your pink sheet. (It's now a headband and maybe something else.)

Maybe you can make that cool pillowcase into a large tote or a skirt so you don't have to cut it too much. It has a great print.

Beware--buying vintage pillowcases is ADDICTING!! Ask me how I know. :) I have an entire drawer full and I'm always looking for ways to reuse them. If you have any little girls to sew for, pillowcase dresses are really fun for the summer!

Katie: Great post and pics! I prefer plain ol' frozen margaritas myself. But the ones in MSL look like great summer-time drinks for sure. I've been at the thrift store twice this week already (and it's only Wednesday!). I saw the same yellow floral sheet that you posted about. My eye is drawn to it each time I visit, but I can't quite figure out what I'd do with it. LOL!

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I appreciated your comment.

Katie, you're a girl after my own heart - I love margaritas too. I will definitely be running out on my lunch break looking for the latest MSL. Thanks for the preview!
I'm loving your vintage pillowcases, too. I almost picked up a few at the thrift today, but remembered my fabric-buying rule. Wait, do they count as fabric?

Oh my, I love the first pillowcase! I actually had those sheets as a child and it was my favorite too! I need to raid my mom's linen closet and see if she still has it...

Ooh, margaritas are my drink of choice too, so I'm definitely going to check out that issue. I wasn't too thrilled with the last one. I love your tote and your finds - I'm always looking for nice vintage pillowcases and never have much luck.

I'm excited about the MSL margaritas too! My issue fell right open to the watermelon basil one. I am curious! And the gold and white polka dot fabric is great! I love polka dots the most! I'm starting to wonder where you thrift too! hahaha!
