A suit for Isaiah

When my niece was first born, my sister-in-law and I made a lot of clothes for her. They always had the cutest patterns and fabrics for little girls. This is one of my favorite ones we made for her. It's hard to believe this was 4 years ago!

Since Isaiah has been born, I have not sewn one single thing for him. I mean, I have done a lot of other sewing, but nothing for Isaiah. So, as if I didn't have enough Easter projects going, I thought I'd make him a jacket from this thrift store pattern. I used the only boyish looking fabric I had, which coincidentally is also from the thrift store.

Isaiah was less than cooperative in taking this picture. I wanted him to try it on before I hemmed it. I'm not really sure I'm in love with this thing. Definitely not my favorite thing that he has in his wardrobe. I was planning on putting a white polo shirt underneath it with some khaki pants. Gosh, that just sounds so super preppy! The pattern shows a much cuter version. Maybe if I had a different fabric I'd like it better. Oh, what to do, what to do. The pattern also calls for buttons. I'm not sure if I'm going to do that. What do you guys think? Any ideas on spicing it up?

Why is it that they have a million cute patterns for girls and like only 2 for boys? It just seems so unfair! I'd like to dress my little boy up too!

what a cute little jacket! If I have a boy, I want to dress him in clothes like that. I love the boy stuff that is a little old-fashioned and classic. I know what you mean about the girl stuff being so much easier to find, though. Boys seem relegated to sports, transportation and dinosaurs. No fun!

It's cute. I really like that pattern. I don't know what you can do with it. I'm not good at straying from patterns. I usually follow them to the T because I'm afraid I'll screw up something. (I used to be that way with cooking, too, before I became more experienced. Now I never measure anything.)

I hear you I have three boys and have made very little for them. Look at on-line kids clothing stores maybe there is some inspiration there.

That jacket is so cute please post a pic when you finish. (No pressure :)

Oh I think he looks cute! Maybe once you hem it you'll like it better?

You are so right about there being much more fabric, patterns, and project ideas for girls than boys. What's a mom of boys to do? He did finally model it for you though - very cute. I could never make that since I'm clothes challenged.

I like the jacket. I'd add buttons, though. I think they'll finish it off nicely. And the polo shirt is a great idea. All I ever sewed for Josh were cute little sweats, oh and a cute little jacket which I made 3 or 4 of it was so cute. I'll check if I still have the pattern. I definitely have a photo or two.

i feel your pain when it comes to boy patterns. i have successfully made a ton of dress up clothes for him (capes and tunics and such) but nothing he can actually wear that is cute! i would totally do the buttons! it will add some detail.

It needs an anchor patch on the breast pocket. It is cute!

I've noticed that too, I had two nephews before I got my neice. I think the jacket's cute with or withour buttons. Preppy's okay for Easter, go for it.

so true about the girls v. boys patterns. my mom has found one cute short-sleeved button down that is very cute - but that's about it...

unfair!
