Quilt in Progress

I'm taking another trip to NY on Friday for a few days. Isaiah and I are flying up with a friend of mine from home who lives down here. My oldest friend's (I've know her since I was 2!) daughter is turning 1 year old on Saturday. Since I didn't already have enough going on, I thought that the little birthday girl needed a small quilt. I spent much of Saturday and Sunday working on this. I originally had 9 blocks, but decided that was way too big and only ended up using 4. So, I'll have enough to do another small quilt, or make 5 doll quilts. We'll see how that goes.
This is only the quilt top, and I still have to quilt and bind it before I head out on Friday. (Sorry the pictures aren't so great). I'm having trouble deciding how I should quilt it. Any suggestions? It probably has to be something simple as I don't have a walking foot. I was thinking about maybe hand tying it, but I'm not sure how that will come out. Ugh, I have no idea why I start these projects with such little time left! I know it the end it'll be worth it because it's a handmade gift made with lots of love.

Hope you all have a lovely start to your week. I'll be waiting around all day for the washing machine repair man to show up. Until then, I'll be sitting under piles of dirty laundry. I think a Starbucks trip might be necessary....

That quilt is going to be beautiful. I haven't done any quilting yet so can't really offer any suggestions but I think the hand tied idea sounds good.
I agree totally about this sudden need to create something at the last minute. Sometimes those projects turn out the best though as we just have to get it done and can't leave it in the work basket waiting for inspiration to strike!
Hope you have a great trip:o)

Wow! You are a quilt demon! I would have suggested in the ditch, but that would be a pain without a walking foot. Maybe just stipple some of the little blocks and leave some unquilted?

Great fabric selection. Not sure if you want a walking foot, but I found mine at Joann and with the coupon it was under 10 dollars. I love it. I also think handtying the quilt will look great.

i think hand tying would be pretty. i've been wanting to try that too. there's a good description of it in the denyse schmidt book. i just finished a big quilt, and did stitch in the ditch. i don't have a walking foot, but it was fine. i would just suggest to pin like crazy if you do that. i like the long flower pins from clover for quilts, but they're sharp, and i stabbed myself about a million times!

I love that sprinkle of deep purple throughout.

Very thoughtful and beatiful gift, especially for your life-long friend's daughter:) If you could get a inexpensive walking foot a meandering quilt stitch would look great with a varigated thread. If you cant get a walking foot then tie with some pretty satin ribbon:)

But which ever you choose definately get some Starbucks!
